We were talking to each other like we were standing next to each other. We were wearing our head sets and had them on the low setting. Around San Diego harbor we do not tie the anchor down so it is ready for an emergency drop. In that sense it could be a back up to the pin on the bow roller we now have and backups are good. I think the chain hook was to keep the anchor from launching accidently. Have tested it at the dock and all works great. Also it keeps the chain at a nice angle to the windlass. This bracket keeps the anchor shaft down low after it comes up over the bow roller when retrieving and keeps it from hitting the furler. The chain hook is on a piece of chain that is attached to the bracket that holds the sheave the chain slides on. We changed out the bow rollers so the CQR now sits different on the bow, in a roller designed for a CQR. Looks impressive as it makes us look like old salts, only nobody sees what’s under the anchor locker door! This is a PO left over and seeing as we have not anchored yet in this boat I am not sure what it’s purpose is or if it still has one. Now for bleeding the Perkins 101 with a dock mate on Tuesday evening. I wish we could have had a picture of us high fiving our first sail into the slip. Now if we had had missed… there would have been a huge audience, just that's the way it is. Any way we did great and of course there was nobody looking. The dock master's (can be a grumpy guy) sail boat is across from ours and you know there are a lot of ways to look bad on this one. Debbie has been doing a lot of the docking and is been spot on when getting into the slip. Not that easy to get into without bouncing around and maybe out. Now our slip is for a 35' boat and is about 6 inches wider than out boat. It was going to take 45 min so we decide the wind was favorable so why not sail back into the slip? Debbie took the helm and I took the jib sheet. So we sailed back up the channel with the jib and called, who else vessel assist. Hay the starting battery I just hooked up was and did work fine! All twenty five times, well a bunch that we tried it. We tried a few tricks like the electric fuel pump. No despair, the wind was pushing us down the channel towards the pump out station and we had lots or some room on either side. We then decide it was time for a check list. After a quick chat we realized each thought the other had turned on the fuel. Oh no! OK a nuclear attack is worst but not much. We left the slip motor purring and were heading to the lovely pump out station when the engine died. The up anchor showing off all the new goodies. Leave slip, go pump out and sail to la Play anchorage. Get up have some goodies like coffee and food. All rights reserved. The test anchoring on Sunday did not go as planned, what's new.
